Remember the old mercury thermometers that were outlawed because they contained such a dangerous substance?
Now congress is considering a law to ban the standard light bulbs and force us to use compact fourescent light bulbs whose main ingredient is... you guessed it, mercury. In fact, they are so hazardous that if broken, the suggestion is to call a HAZMAT team to clean it up!
Do we really need congress to pass a law like this? What's the reason? Help stop mand-made global warming and save the planet one light bulb at a time! Great. The planet won't heat up 1/2 a degree, but we can all die of mercury poisoning! GREAT PLAN!
Where is the media on this one????

So called "experts" on the news
Has anyone else notice that suddenly EVERYONE has become an expert. Jane Fonda, who never served in the military is now an expert on the war and how it compares to Viet Nam. Jimmy Carter, one of the worst presidents in our history, is called upon to name President Bush the worst president in history... Wait maybe the DOES make sense.
Today, President Bush imposed sanctions against the Sudanese because of the violence in Darfur. Immediately after playing the sound byte, the news put on an "expert" who said it was too little too late and what Bush should... Should is for losers. You can't go back in time and should have done anything other than how you did it. It's unfortunate something wasn't done sooner, but Republicans (especially Bush) are damned if they do and damned if they don't according to the media.
So now it goes to the UN where China is expected to veto the sanctions, therefore making the resolution worthless. Once again, nothing gets done about Darfur, but it's not Bush's fault! Blame the UN.

Why Cindy Sheehan?
And you think the media isn't biased? Since the beginning of the Iraq war, almost 3500 soldiers have died serving our country. So why is Cindy Sheehan the only one who makes the news? Since her son, Casey, was killed in Iraq, she has become a rabid anti-war activist.
My question would be why is she the only Gold-star mother the media turns to for a news story? Certainly there are other well spoken mothers who have opposing views to this liberal airhead. So why don't we hear from them? Is it because they don't pal around with Venezuelan dictators?
The answer is, it doesn't fit the media's anti-Bush, anti-war message.

Carbon credits? What a SCAM!
Think about it. I want to lost weight so I have my neighbor go on a diet and I pay them for the pounds they lose and it counts toward my weight loss. Let's call it "Calorie Credits". Would anyone believe me if I used that logic instead of going on a diet and exercise program myself? The answer is NO!
So why all this excitement about carbon offsets? It's the same thing. Guys like Al Gore and John Edwards, who tout the destruction of the earth by man made global warming, are building these huge houses that use tons of energy, then buy carbon credits from people who are not using theirs. HOW DOES THIS LOWER EMISSIONS? It doesn't. And if you think it does, you are a fool.
Take the total amount of pollution in the world. Someone increases their energy output and buys the offsets from someone who is already NOT polluting. How in the world would any intelligent person believe this lowers carbon output? Maybe that explains it. People who believe this are dupes. So PT Barnum was right!
I'm not saying these people aren't caring human beings, what I am saying is that they want their lifestyle and let others sacrifice theirs to compensate... sounds a little like Communism, doesn't it? The elites live a great life while the common folks (whose sides they profess to be on) suffer for the good of the few. Didn't Russia collapse with this attitude????
The earth may or may not be warming up. But how much humans are contributing to that is still in question (no matter what Laurie David says). Weather is just weather and Mother Nature is much more powerful than we are. Try going out and stopping a tornado if you don't believe me!

Is the surge in Iraq working?
I am a San Francisco Giants fan. I go to games, listen on the radio and watch them on television. The only way I know who's winning the game is to see or hear the score... With that said, when I listed to the media report happenings in Iraq, ALL I hear is how a car bomb killed this many people or a suicide bomber killed this many people. Not a single word do I hear about how many bad guys our troops took out that day. I take that back, I occasionally hear about military successes, but not as often as I hear the BAD news.
So my question is, how will we know who is winning with this type of propaganda? The media is certainly against this war and, like Viet Nam, they are complicit in making it unpopular with the people of the United States... but not for the reasons you might think.
Most US Citizens love this country and what it stands for. Why else would they care what other countries think of us? What they do not expect is for us to lose a war against a bunch of idiots stuck in the middle ages. So where is the tally of bad guys killed?

Immigration bill? HA!
This latest attempt by congress to pass this "immigration bill" is a fraud. First of all, most of the people who are coming across our border illegally are not here because they want to be citizens. They want to cash in on our FREE services (MediCare, Social Security, health care, food stamps, etc.) while earning money (tax FREE) that they can wire back to their home countries.
As an American who pays taxes, I am insulted. I have a friend who has a Chinese wife who has to jump through hoops to get her into this country legally and other friends who have immigrated the right way only to have our government bend over backwards to let these people come across our borders illegally and give them "amnesty".
Sure, they are proposing a fine and some other silly bureaucratic nonsense, but it will mean nothing since it only applies to immigrants who want to become citizens! Since it imposes a fine for those who wish citizenship, who's to say it may even be a deterrent to them becoming citizens?
This bill is insulting, and our representatives should be told so! Our here in California, we're doomed since we have the most liberal senators and congress women, but the rest of the country can speak up. California really doesn't lead the nation as they believe. They are out to destroy it!

Using POLLS to create news
Has anyone noticed how the news media is using polls to create news? It's becoming more and more prominent as a way to create news AND to influence public opinion.
The first lie I saw today on a morning show was that because of gas prices, 50% of people have cancelled their plans for summer vacation. Who did they poll and why would anyone cancel summer trips they are planning to take in July and August in May? IT'S A LIE. What would be the purpose? I am not sure, but could it be a swipe at the gas companies? Republicans? President Bush? I'm sure they could not have polled enough people to be able to come to that conclusion.
If it's a swipe at high gas prices, then who is to blame? Media reports that Democrats are saying that it's because of the failed policy of the current administration. How? Democrats' pals, the environmentalists won't let us drill anywhere or build new refineries. Plus liberal policies have added a tax burden of over 50 cents a gallon in most states. Then we have all the gasoline blends the refineries need to produce to meet the emmission standards in each state. That has got to add to the cost. So how is this Bush's fault? Because he didn't repeal all the laws the Democrats have passed over the years (as if he could)? I blame extreme environmentalists for the high gas prices and so should you. Who are their pals? Republicans or Democrats? I'd bet they vote Democrat more than they vote Republican. But losers fix the blame, winners fix what caused the problems. So what's the solution? REPEAL THE GAS TAX, STANDARDIZE THE GASOLINE BLENDS, OPEN ANWR TO DRILLING and BUILD SOME NEW REFINERIES (lift the restrictions).
Then there's the endless polls about the war... who are the people they are polling and what is their expertise on running a war? And who cares? I want the US to win peace in the middle east. Don't you? I'll do more on this later, I'm sure. But I need to pack for a trip. NO, we haven't cancelled our plans because of high gas prices!!!
